Zen Word for Better Communication #40 面授 Menju

The art of direct transmission

Menju is the direct transmission of wisdom through personal encounter.

We often focus on what can be documented, measured, and taught.  But some of the most valuable lessons are passed on in a different way: through working side by side, observing how others act, and sharing meaningful experiences.

A great leader does more than communicate knowledge.  They embody their values and create opportunities for others to lean through direct experience.

That is the essence of Menju: not just teaching what to think or do but helping another person develop a deeper understanding through human connection and example.
