CIEN recognizes that protection of its users’ privacy is a matter of critical importance to fulfill its mission. CIEN has adopted the following Personal Information Protection Policy for this purpose and is committed to treating its users’ personal information in a careful and secure manner so that it will be appropriately protected. For purposes of this policy, “personal information” means any information that may identify a specific individual.
1. Basic Policy
In order to provide its users with a sense of security and confidence when using CIEN’s services, CIEN has established its policies regarding the protection of personal information and has committed itself to ensuring appropriate use and treatment of users’ personal information.
2. Compliance with Applicable Laws and Regulations
It is CIEN’s policy to strictly comply with the Law for the Protection of Personal Information Retained by Independent Administrative Institutions and any other applicable laws and regulations, in order to appropriately use and handle personal information of its users.
3. Treatment of Personal Information
a. Collection of Personal Information
When collecting personal information from users, CIEN will specify the purpose for which users’ personal information is collected and will endeavor to obtain such personal information only to the extent necessary for the purpose for which the information is collected, and use an appropriate means that complies with applicable law.
b. Use of Personal Information
Except in the case we are required to do so by law, CIEN will not use users’ personal information outside the scope of the purposes stipulated below:
i) Implementation and management of CIEN’s services for users who applied for these services and provided their personal information to CIEN
ii) To conduct questionnaires concerning services in which customers participate, and to grasp the outcomes of such services and share them with the co-organizers
iii) Sending leaflets on CIEN’s services, events and seminars on countries, categories and businesses to users who expressed an interest in these countries, categories and businesses and provided their personal information to CIEN
iv) Achievement of other purposes clearly indicated to users at the time CIEN requests the information
c. Offer of Personal Information
Except to the extent required by applicable law or unless CIEN has obtained relevant user’s consent, CIEN will not offer users’ personal information to third parties for any purpose other than the purpose of use above-mentioned.
d. Contractor’s Use of Personal Information
May have third party contractors perform CIEN’s services on its behalf. In such instances, CIEN may share users’ personal information only with those contractors who have demonstrated the ability to control and protect such information and have agreed to strictly comply with CIEN’s requirements for the protection of personal information.
4. Appropriate Control of Personal Information
In order to treat personal information in a secure and proper manner, CIEN will endeavor to take appropriate measures to prevent unauthorized access to, loss or diminution of, or damage to, personal information.
5. Continuous Improvement
CIEN will continue to examine its personal information policy as needed and will endeavor to improve it as appropriate.
